Horse Assisted Development

Horse Assisted Development

Horses are ‘divine mirrors,’
reflecting back our inner emotional truth

Allan J Hamilton

Horse Assisted Development (also known by terms such as Equine Facilitated Learning, Equine Facilitated Therapy and Equine Assisted Coaching) is a non-directive and non-confrontational way to help you read and understand the signals we all send, identify your own skills and strengths, and realise your potential.

Our horses are the true educators in this work. They don’t do role-play, so noticing how they respond to our behaviour and energy offers us a unique insight into ourselves and our relationship to the world and to other people, aiding us in:

  • Developing key life skills
  • Building confidence
  • Becoming emotionally empowered
  • Improving relationships
  • Managing stress
  • Communicating effectively

Horses demand authenticity – authenticity gets results!

Leadership and Team Development

Organisations of all shapes and sizes count on connected teams and authentic leaders to make the things that matter happen.

Our leadership and team development programmes bring Emotional Intelligence to the fore, creating metaphors that reflect real-life challenges, and focusing on solutions, not problems. Whether we’re working together on a 1:1 basis, or in a group, your bespoke programme will incorporate elements of:

  • Intuitive leadership
  • Building resilience
  • Effective communication
  • Reflective learning
  • Relationships and trust
  • Managing emotions and energy

You might be the CEO of a fast-paced business looking to consolidate leadership skills, an HR Manager sourcing team development provision, or a community group wanting to develop the leaders of tomorrow. Either way, by working with you to understand your goals and priorities, we can design a programme that has the greatest impact on you and your organisation.

Health and Wellbeing

There are proven links between healthy human development and contact with animals and the natural environment. Horses teach us how to process a vast range of emotions, from grief and loneliness to pivotal life experiences.

Working with horses helps you take care of your mind, body and spirit. By acting as a mirror, they show us instantly when we are being inconsistent with our thoughts, helping to develop strength and resilience when dealing with life, or career challenges.

Our 1:1 and group personal development programmes offer a safe place for collaboration and learning. We work with you to set goals and objectives in areas such as:

  • Self-confidence
  • Mental health
  • Relationships and trust
  • Career development
  • Overcoming loss and separation
  • Reducing stress and anxiety.

Changing Minds and Behaviours

With horses, you can’t hide what you’re feeling. This provides a great opportunity for you to work through your feelings before they become unmanageable.

This type of programme is ideally suited to working on a 1:1 basis, as this allows us to tailor our activities to meet very specific individual needs and work on:

Setting Boundaries:

Setting Boundaries:

Like us, horses test boundaries.

As people work with them, they learn to set limits and assume a position of authority and responsibility.

Relationships:

Relationships:

Through the horses, people learn to build healthy relationships.

If they are withdrawn, aggressive, manipulative, or angry, the horse may not engage.

Behaviour Patterns:

Behaviour Patterns:

Horses are perceptive, but they don’t judge a person’s problematic background, or perceived shortcomings.

Instead, they provide a safe and positive space to explore painful feelings and destructive behaviour patterns.

Building Resilience:

Building Resilience:

Though gentle, horses are often perceived as large and powerful.

Working alongside them creates opportunities for overcoming fear, building courage and assertiveness and gaining respect.
